A Rare “V” For CNE

By Greg Shoemaker | Featured Analyst

For only the second time in its last 20 games Clermont Northeastern (1-0) found the win column as they bested Fayetteville-Perry 19-7 last Friday night. The Rockets rewarded head coach Scot Gildea with a victory in his first game with the program.

On offense, Dalton Miracle carried the ball 19 times for 176 yards and a touchdown. It was the junior’s third 100-yard rushing game of his career. In his debut under center sophomore Shawn Lykins threw for one score and ran for another while accounting for 116 yards of total offense. Lykins who replaced Trey Amann at quarterback so Gildea could move the senior to other skill positions to show off his talents. Amann obliged his coach with four receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown. He also had 38 yards rushing.

The CNE defense was rock solid as sophomore Luke Newton led the charge with 16 total tackles (13 solo). Defensive end Logan Fishback recorded two sacks and was in on 11 tackles (six solo). The turnaround for the Rockets defense was immense as they allowed 63, 48, 63 and 62 points in their final four contests of 2013.
