Dayton Defensive POY: Kei Beckham

Kei Beckham will go down as arguably one of the best secondary players to ever come out of the Gem City. Beckham’s laurels earned him the 2014 TriStateFootball.com Dayton Defensive Player of the Year as TSF paid tribute to finest from Northern Kentucky, Dayton, Cincinnati and Southeast Indiana area’s high school gridiron at the Year in Review Show on Thursday night at Dave and Buster’s in Springdale, Ohio.

The Division III Ohio Co-Defensive player of the year as a senior and two-time First Team All-Southwest District selection came up with nine interceptions five of which he returned for touchdowns. All of Beckhams “pick sixes” came when the Rams opponents were pinned deep on their side of the field. He also had two fumble recoveries for a Trotwood-Madison team that won its fifth consecutive Regional title.

Bound for the University of Kentucky Beckham amassed 85 tackles, six fumble recoveries (one FRRetTD) and 18 interceptions (391 IntRetYds & six IntRetTDs). During his last 19 varsity games. Nine of those were playoff contests Beckham came up with 19 takeaways (14 interceptions, five fumble recoveries) of which he returned seven for touchdowns.

Other finalist included teammates Robert Landers (Wayne/Ohio State), Tyree Kinnel (Wayne/Michigan) as well as Kraig Howe (Alter/Wisconsin), Alex Fryman (Bellbrook), Kevin Earles (Springboro/Saginaw Valley State), Bryce Jenkinson (Greenville/Cincinnati)
